Summary

Picture
On June 16, 1972, a security guard at the Watergate Hotel in Washington , D.C. , discovered a piece of tape on the lock of the door that led to the National Democratic Headquarters. He figred it must just be the cleaning crew, so he took it off and went on his way.

Later on he came back and the piece of tape was baxk on the door, he knew something was up so he investigated. This foiled break-in attempt at the Watergate scandal was part of a larger campaign by Nixon supporters to tarnish the reputation of Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party. This was the result of two separate occasions that the National Democratic Headquarters were broken into.

As soon as the attempted break-in at Watergate Hotel scandal became know, president Richard Nixon ordered the entire affair covered up, even though the whole scandal was not his idea. This lead to further investigation, later leading to President Nixon resigning for office.
